Apple Launches iPhone Duo
Apple finally folds — seven years late, and $800 more than the iPhone 18 Pro.

Apple has finally unveiled the iPhone Duo, hoping on to the trend of foldable phones at last. Instead of the one traditional screen, the Duo unfolds to reveal a larger, more like an Ipad mini like display. This allows the users to use their phones in ways that previous iPhones could not. The device also allows multitasking possible with users being able to run multiple apps side by side. The introduction of a foldable iPhone can be an era defining moment for Apple with the update being one of the biggest changes to the iPhone design since the original model.
While many other companies have jumped into the foldable phone market since 2019, Apple's decision to join the party now, in 2026, can be considered quite questionable. The iPhone duo will have to compete with products that went through multiple advancement. For example, Samsung has been releasing foldable phones since 2019 holding around 40% of the market for foldable phones. However, if the excitement for the iPhone Duo continues it may come to Apple's favor.
One of the biggest downsides of the iPhone Duo comes from its price. Starting from the price of a whopping $1,999 dollars, it makes it the most expensive iPhone that Apple has released so far. To compare, the newly released iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, demonstrating that people have to have $800 more for the foldable phone.
Ultimately, it leaves with the important question: Are people willing to pay $800 dollars more for a foldable phone? It will be up to the consumers to decide whether or not the iPhone Duo will start a new era of iPhone or just become an experiment.
